Has anyone switched to a standing desk permanently?

I'm thinking about making the jump to a standing desk setup at home, but I'm worried about the adjustment period and whether it's actually worth the expense. I've heard conflicting opinions - some people swear it changed their life and fixed their back pain, while others say they went back to sitting after a few weeks. Does anyone here have long-term experience with standing desks? What's your honest take on the productivity gains and comfort level after a few months of use?
