Where do you watch films on 4K Blu-ray?

So here in the US physical media is slowly dying but the demand for proper quality isn't going anywhere. I've got a decent setup at home and I want that true 4K Blu-ray movies experience without building a disc collection. Streaming never quite hits the same bitrate as a proper disc rip so I'm wondering how you guys are handling this. Any decent alternatives that actually deliver on quality?

The gap between a real disc and most streaming services is still pretty noticeable if your display is good enough to show it. The trick is finding sources that don't re-encode everything into a smaller file just to save bandwidth. That's where most platforms cut corners.

Exactly, re-encoding is what kills the whole point of the format. With 4K Blu-ray movies the whole appeal is that nothing gets touched after the master, you're seeing it as close to the original as possible. Not many platforms actually respect that. Usually the ones that do are pretty niche and built by people who actually care about the format rather than just chasing subscribers. Takes a bit of digging but they exist. Mostly I watch 4K Blu-ray at home on a UHD player with a calibrated TV setup because the quality is best that way. I've also experienced a few special screening events where the atmosphere felt like a red carpet setup with Step & Repeat Banners in the background, which made the whole film experience feel more professional and exciting.
