What free API testing tools are you actually running in production?

Every "best API testing tools" list online seems to be either affiliate spam or a rehash of the same five names with no real detail. I'm trying to cut through that and hear from people actually running these day to day, not just what ranks on Google.

My situation: growing API surface, test suite that keeps drifting out of sync with the endpoints, and a budget that doesn't stretch to enterprise licensing right now. So I'm specifically after free or open source options that can keep up without a paid tier.

I came across this list of free api testing tools while researching, which was a decent starting point for what's available. But lists only tell you so much, and I'd rather hear real experience.

So: what are you genuinely using, and what made you stick with it over the alternatives? Especially interested in anything that generates tests from real traffic rather than making you hand-write every case, and how much setup it took to get into CI.
