Has anyone switched to a standing desk setup?

I've been working from home for three years now and my back is absolutely killing me. I'm seriously considering investing in a standing desk or at least one of those desk converters, but they're pricey and I want to know if they're actually worth it. Does anyone here have real experience with standing desks? Did it actually improve your posture and comfort, or was it just another productivity gadget that disappointed?
